1. Overview
Grade-Gurion is a Chrome browser extension that helps Ben-Gurion University students easily generate a direct link to a grade-distribution PDF for a specific course. The extension works entirely on the user’s device and does not collect or transmit any personal or sensitive information.
Disclaimer:
This extension is an independent student project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to Ben-Gurion University or any other institution. The extension simply automates the creation of links to grade distribution reports that are already accessible to students through the university’s official systems. All data remains under the control of the university’s website, and this tool does not store, modify, or redistribute any academic information. Use at your own discretion.2. Data Collection and Use
a. Data the extension accesses
When the user explicitly opens the extension popup while viewing a course page in the university’s student system, the extension temporarily reads limited data from that page’s script content — such as:
- Course identifiers (department number, course number)
- Semester and year values
- An internal system key (
p_key) required to generate the report link
This data is non-personal and is used only locally to build a direct link to the grade-distribution PDF.
b. Data storage
The extension may save the last used input values (such as course number or semester) in the browser’s local storage so the user won’t need to re-enter them later. This information never leaves the user’s computer and can be deleted at any time by clearing browser data.
c. Data sharing
The extension does not share, transmit, or send any user data to external servers, third parties, or analytics systems. All processing occurs entirely within the user’s browser.
3. Permissions Explanation
Grade-Gurion uses the following Chrome permissions:
- activeTab / scripting – to temporarily read non-personal parameters from the active tab (course page) after the user opens the popup.
- downloads – to let the user download the generated PDF report directly.
- storage (localStorage) – to remember user input values locally.
These permissions are required solely for the described functionality.
4. Data Retention
No personal data is stored or retained. Only local input values (year, semester, department, course, and grade term) are optionally kept in local storage for convenience and are fully under the user’s control.
